Independence Public Library
Director: Pete Daniels
Assistant Director: Julie Hildebrand
Children's Librarian: Blinn Sheffield
The Independence Public Library has over twenty public computers, and wireless access with high-speed internet and printing available. Relax in comfortable seating while you enjoy books, magazines, newspapers, or computers. We also offer DVDs, videos, books-on-tape, and now Playaways, which are books on MP3 devices.
We have wonderful programs all year which are sponsored by The Friends of the Library, and are free to the public. Be sure and view our calendar to know what programs are currently being offered. We periodically have computer classes taught in our computer lab. Book discussions are offered throughout the year. Special programs are conducted by various artists such as musicians, storytellers, jugglers, magicians, and much more!
You can enjoy our children's library on the third floor, complete with a parent's lounge. Blinn Sheffield, the children's librarian, always has fun programs for the kids to participate in. There is an art area, a puppet theater, and a Storytime seating arena.
Teens can hang out in the YA Space, which has a restaurant booth, nice seating, and gaming computers. Teen programs will be offered starting in August.
Our Kansas Room is run by wonderful volunteers who can help with genealogy research. There are three microfilm machines, two are digital. You can save the microfilmed information by printing out the document, by burning onto a CD, or by sending it by email. Computers are also available in the Kansas Room for research.
Come on in and enjoy YOUR NEW LIBRARY!
