W.R. “MICKEY” HEIMBERGER, SR.
W. R. "Mickey" Heimberger, Sr., 89, of Independence, died Wednesday (August 12, 2009) morning at Mercy Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with the Reverend Mike Graham, Chaplain of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by a detail from Ft. Riley, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial remembrances to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
Wilfred Roy Heimberger, Sr., was born June 22, 1920 at Detroit, Michigan, the son of Richard Heimberger and Emma (Milki) Heimberger. He grew up and attended school in Detroit. He joined the United States Army and served in the European Theatre during World War II. Mr. Heimberger was a meat cutter at the A& P Food Store for a time and later at Reed’s IGA. He was an avid fisherman and motorcyclist.
On December 23, 1943 at Independence, Kansas he was united in marriage to Mary J. "Jackie" Davidson and she survives at the home.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Wilfred Roy: Heimberger, Jr. of Independence and John Heimberger of Coffeyville, Kansas; two daughters, Mary Charlene Garr and Patricia Lesslie both of Independence; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grand children; and one great great grandchild.
