Ivan Miller
Ivan R. Miller, 89, of Independence, died Saturday evening (August 8th, 2009) at Regal Estates.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with Margie Miller of the Crossroads Community Church officiating. . Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by a detail from Ft. Riley, Kansas. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the Crossroads Community Church and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
Ivan Russell Miller was born July 28, 1920 at Hewins, Kansas, the son of Pearl Wilford Miller and Ollie Beautrice (Drake) Miller. He attended schools in Hewins and rural Elk City.. On July 10, 1942, he joined the United States Army and was discharged on January 10, 1946. He served as a Military Police Officer in Australia.
Mr. Miller worked for Electra Manufacturing in Independence for a time and later worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas . He then transferred to a Ammunition plant in Batesville, Arkansas where he worked as a Government Inspector. He later was employed by McDonald Douglas in Tulsa as an Aerospace Inspector. He retired in 1982 and moved to Independence.
On July 16, 1961 at Osawatomie, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Nora J. Shult. Mrs. Miller preceded her husband in death on September 12, 1999.
He is survived by a stepson, William Backes of Buffalo, Kansas ten step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
